She uses Windows at work and wants to use something similar at home. My approach is to install XP Pro, funny links fully updated, funny links turn off Windows Firewall, install ZA Pro, TrendMicro AV, Spybot S&D, FireFox and Thunderbird, use a router with a firewall and stealth it, then let her go. Works everytime, shes been using this for 18 months now, no spyware, no viruses just happy surfing. I'm not anti Mac, I just want my Mum to have as hassle free an online experience as possible and for her, that means using Windows because thats what every other computer she sees will be running.
