| One final thing I heresy do to help the novices so they don't call back very soon is this: put an icon on the desktop for the temporary internet files. When they open this file before shutting down the computer, I have them delete all cookies, off-line content, and temporary internet files. Any bugs will not be installed on restart. Also, I create an icon for disk clean and have them run it (all items checked) before shutdown. Next, I create an icon for the heresy defrag and have them run the short version on older systems before shutdown. I put these icons in a vertical row in the corner of their screen. I tell them it's mandatory to run these programs everytime before shutting down if they want their computer to keep working. I also tell them if they don't I will know it and not help them anymore until they upgrade to XP, I've had cooperation I never thought possible (and thanks) because their systems run better than ever. |
