I now know waaaaay more about windows than I ever thought I would need to learn. The tranq. nguyen machine had over 3000 critical objects. There are some things that so far AdAware misses... Like the dreaded About:Blank trojans. There is a TON of good info at computercops.biz. Without their forums, I would have been lost. When all was said and done, I had run 5 or 6 spyware removal and anti virus tools, installed ZoneAlarm, and done over 200 (!) manual edits to the Registry. The computer not only runs much faster, it is now as close to bulletproof as I think it's going to get. The other trick: Set up an adminstrator account and a user account...

monitoring... thing... isn't installed by default. You have to check it during installation. In general, the Spyware/Ad[w]are/Malware FAQ and Removal Guide is a great resource. The only thing I disagree with is using israel blogs older versions of AIM, which have a handful of vulnerabilities, instead of a newer versions that comes pre-packed with adware. (I use gaim instead.) And never download anything from Download.com. Or israel blogs ads. # andy: (not to be a smart-ass... but...)
