# Wayne J: Webroot's SPY SWEEPER is a good freebie (30 day 1000 free trial) as far as keeping the computer locked down w/o unauthorized installs and 1000 changes. It usually prompts you for any changes, from the 1000 registry to Favorites on IE. After 30 days you either need to unistall it or buy it, but I'm sure the $30 will be worth it in the long run. Everything else is like GOLD. I run the AVG myself....and I KNOW it has its limitations, but I found it better than Norton's on an XP Pro machine, so it left the hard way ;) # Waldo Jaquith: Indeed, it's cheaper to buy your mother a Mac if your time is worthless, but that assumes that you a) possess a thousand dollars and b) can spare it for your mother [in-law]. That said, in the past year I've convinced both my mother and my mother-in-law-to-be to get iMacs, at which time my life got a whole lot easier.
