But I am 2005 almost ready to make a switch to a Mac, because I easily spend more than half my computer time on trying 2005 to correct 2005 problems or prevent them. Thanks, Gina, for your excellent article that makes it possible (with a considerable effort and outlay of patience I'm sure) to get my computers back up to speed. But you apparently, are a computer professional, and as you've said, it's satisfying to help your folks doing something that is much easier (!) for you than if they tried to do it (and no doubt far less successfully) themselves. As a retired engineer (who graduated shortly after the invention of the transistor), I'm more in your in-laws category of skills than yours, and I simply don't want to have to spend much time baby-sitting and tending my computers -- not nearly as much as I currently have to do. I am not a newbie to computers either, having lived with a Commodore 64, IBM-PCs (at work), various clone desktops and a variety of laptop machines. Windows is great when it's working, XP an improvement over 98, 95, or earlier versions but definitely DOES still crash!
