There are also a couple of basins in Tampa which could be flooded, not by tide water but by heavy rain upstream which could make the Hillsborough river overflow. Tampa has a bypass canal humorous with floodgates, but I don't know whether a category-five storm could humorous break or overwhelm it. A hurricane hasn't been hit Tampa square for decades, but last year the National Weather Service's projected path of not one but four of them - Charley, Francis, Ivan and Jeanne - humorous came right at the Bay Area, and swerved aside only at the last minute. (I actually typed "miraculous" there but backspaced over it after I considered what sort of "miracle" it was that Tampa was spared, by Punta Gorda and Pensacola getting smashed instead.) Well, now we Tampa Bay residents know what we can expect from our national leaders if a category four storm like Charley or a category five storm like Ivan actually does drive right up the mouth of Tampa Bay, like this map projected for nine hours hence. (Incidentally, most of the people in Tampa Bay's the "A" and "B" evacuation zones who fled Charley drove straight to Orlando; guess where Charley ended up going right through.)
