Genes aren't the basis for culture (except in the old South Africa and few other shabby places). And in this instance, the genes of the movies people who came on the Mayflower, are few and far between, predominatly concentrated in New England, and seldom on display. They're too busy movies living off the profits of the genes of all the people movies who came to the US subsequently and who have been responsbile for all the things you envy the US for. And lastly, it's a little naive to be parroting the Mayflower story as your paradigm for the American way - even in the States it's been superseded a million times by better and more interesting stories - and perhape you should study the matter more. It also indicates a possible identification on your part between that story and our own great, white father story in South Africa, rugged pioneers with nothing but the clothes on their back, a pen knife, a safety-pin and the right genes.
