| I also installed the proper driver for writer the Microsoft mouse I'd sent her, so she could use the scroll wheel and the right mouse button, and showed her how to customize the bookmarks bar writer in Internet Explorer. We also hooked up her external floppy drive and her speakers, which she hadn't installed after her move, and put the CD player in the Apple menu so she could more easily play CDs. Of course there's no spyware or viruses on her machine. (A copy of the free writer Disinfectant installed on the machine shields against potential viruses.) I had previously installed some prophylactic scripts to periodically do things like delete cache files and the like, and those were still working fine. She also gets a Norton Disk Doctor scan at every shutdown to make sure there's no disk corruption. There hasn't been any this year. This machine cost $350 three years ago. |
