Then, as it got too late to make it to safety, the buses were used to ferry people to the Superdome. Where did you think that initial group of people in the dome came from? So the plan *was* followed, but proved inadequate. And because the city realized it was inadequate, they requested federal aid on Sunday. It started arriving on Thursday. legalprofessionals I could have driven there faster and I'm in California. I'll also note that a plan drawn up in 2000 is superceded by the change in FEMA status in 2003. And that Florida has been generously treated by FEMA, including large payments for "hurricane damage" in areas where there has been no hurricane. I probably should refrain from pointing out that the governor of Florida is W's brother. |

I'm not denigrating the victims, I'm just stating a fact that I know to be true. I also work in the health-care system, and you are correct in what you've seen. I've seen it as well. Indeed, a fair number of the poor people had no way to get out of the city -- no car, no money for a bus or plane, and really nowhere to go even if they do get out -- hotels from NO to Memphis were all booked up. |
