The intent of House Bill 1677 is to require the notification of authorities of a delivery of a baby that is dead and the mother has not been attended by a medical professional. This bill was requested by the Chesapeake Police Department in its legislative package due to instances of full term babies who were abandoned shortly after birth. |

| While I appreciate barnard that the issue of abandoned infants is a serious one, the legislation as drafted seems to accomplish nothing that would reduce the practice of women abandoning or killing unwanted babies after they are born. If he would have been born at home, I would have had to call the police along with my healthcare provider. That is a bunch of crap!!!!!!!!!! If I would have had the baby at home, what would the police been able to do about it, NOTHING!!!!!! My husband is a police officer, and if he had to take calls like this it would completly crush him. He has been there, and would feel that pain every time that he responded to one of these calls. Come on, the doctors know what happened and if they want to know how many of them happen, have the doctors report it. |
