If the right put in as much work as they do on their excuses for not responding to the worst natural disaster wrongfully terminated of our lifetime, many, many more people would be alive. And, yes, there's been a failure on every level, but the difference here is this: It's not the before, it's the after. There is no way anyone could have expected anyone to get everyone out of New Orleans before the storm hit. It's an impossible logistical mess even if you had the resources to do so ... which, clearly, they didn't. And even if they did get people out, where do they go? Steve, you yourself said all the hotels were booked. How do the poor pay for hotel rooms if they're available? And if that option's not open, then does Nagin just get on the horn and say: "Mr. Memphis Mayor, we have 100K people headed your way. Can you handle?" Seems like the people needed a higher governmental power to step in...
