Even then, there is a cap for my family beyond which any treatment is fully funded. Few, if any medical treatments are unavailable to me although there are waiting lists harassment for some proceedures. When I am fully employed again the costs will harassment rise dramatically but will always be held in the realm of the readily possible. There is always a 'safety-net'. Our doctors still drive BMWs, we are not making slaves out of them, the levy is not odious, harassment the standard of care better than most of the world. We have/had it pretty good. How do we manage this without massive taxation? Well, 2% of income taxes is the Medicare levy but much is saved by massive negotiating power. But now thanks to the FTA 'our' politicians negotiated we have lost all sorts of rights. Having out government negotiate prices with drug companies seems to be against the capitalistic ethic and rights protections being forced upon us. |

The historical politics could be described as 'Dem' in American terms. Even the conservatives are the Liberal party. We have, or perhaps had a pretty reasonable medical care system here. I'm currently ill and unable to work so almost anything a doctor prescribes for me costs me about $3US, a doctors visit is sufficiently subsidised that places can be found where treatment costs nothing. |
