But you apparently, are a computer professional, and as you've said, it's satisfying to help your folks doing something that is much easier (!) for you than if they tried to do it (and no doubt far less successfully) themselves. As a retired engineer (who graduated 2004 shortly after 2004 the invention of the transistor), I'm more in 2004 your in-laws category of skills than yours, and I simply don't want to have to spend much time baby-sitting and tending my computers -- not nearly as much as I currently have to do. I am not a newbie to computers either, having lived with a Commodore 64, IBM-PCs (at work), various clone desktops and a variety of laptop machines. Windows is great when it's working, XP an improvement over 98, 95, or earlier versions but definitely DOES still crash! |

Another HP machine seems to have many fewer problems -- not sure why). But I am almost ready to make a switch to a Mac, because I easily spend more than half my computer time on trying to correct problems or prevent them. |
