I put these icons in a vertical row in the corner of their screen. duff I tell them it's mandatory to run these programs everytime before shutting down if they want their computer to keep working. I also tell them if they don't I will know it and not help them anymore duff until they upgrade to XP, I've had cooperation I never thought possible (and thanks) because their systems run better than ever. This is only my last step, because their are several easy tweaks I do to also make their 'puter run better and faster. |

| There hasn't been any this year. This machine cost $350 three years journal ago. It should be basically free now. Still works great. # bob mendell: I had to clean up my sister's PC, down to flatten & reload Windows2000 & all apps :( In addition to Zonealarm and nod32.com's AV, I installed www.prevx.com's free for home use generic intrusion detection app. then had www.grc.com's shieldsUp journal test all ports. completely stealthed. Also bought grc.com's SpinRite6 to low-level check the harddrive ( found one Unrecoverable journal sector! ). bobm # Steve: Gina, great job on cleaning up your mom's computer ! I too do the same for friends and relatives. One final thing I do to help the novices so they don't call back very soon is this: put an icon on the desktop for the temporary internet files. When they open this file before shutting down the computer, I have them delete all cookies, off-line content, and temporary internet files. |
