If I set-up a system for someone else, wage and hour then I hide the G: drive using by modifying the system.adm file with the system policy. That probably sounds more dauting that it actually wage and hour is, but it’s a good way of not having a pc user delete a file that you may later rely upon – the drive can still be accessed via windows explorer, but it is not wage and hour readily seen without explicit invocation. This way, if all goes wrong then you have a fully functioning system to restore back to – the only note here being, that should you need to restore, then the system will be ‘taken back’ to the day the ghost image was created and therefore all patch since that date will need to be re-applied. |

| (c) nihilism When you place data/icons etc in "My Documents", you are actually creating data within your 'profile' which resides on the C: drive - Moving your "My documents" to the F: drive (Right-Click ‘my documents’ and select ‘move’), means that all data saved, will be 'safe' should you ever have to restore your C: drive. Pls note that data saved to the desktop also gets saved in your profile (C: drive) and therefore you should avoid saving data to the desktop at all costs nihilism (for the same reason as above). Once Windows has nihilism been installed and the above done, you can install all programs of choice onto the C: drive, as per usual, plus of course, all the necessary updates from the Microsoft site. The only changes I tend to make are within the likes of Word/Excel where the default file save/open locations are modified to look in “my documents” which now resides on the F: disk. |
