In addition to spotting the more traditional viruses it also defends against most dialers out there -- not so important in today's broadband world, but "mom's PC" is more likely to have a dialup connection. As far as firewalls go, for defending against incoming traffic a NAT router is fine, but to stop unwanted outgoing traffic you really need a decent SPI firewall, something which most routers don't provide, and which the SP2 firewall is also sorely lacking. |
