Dave: Yeah, I hated ZoneAlarm on my XP machine at home. Thing is, Windows SP2 provides a software firewall, so it's not really necessary on XP. |

| Then I installed Office XP Pro (again, free copy from work, yay!) and then installed Macafee Enterprise 8.0 (yes, again free from work). After it scanned the HD, I hooked it to the DSL, downloaded and installed SP2 for XP (another hour or so). Then I installed Firefox and Thudnerbird (removed the icons anglicanism to Outlooks anglicanism and IE) and hooked it up to an existing 18 inch monitor so it is easy on the in-laws eyes. Now I have to give them both a quick orientation on how anglicanism things work. Not bad for a first timer! # damion: Very cool list. The only thing that may be missing is java for Firefox. Not many sites use applets (at least that I run into) but for some reason the one site you really want to visit needs the plugin you don't have installed. Oh.... and depending on what it takes to actually visit the machine, setting up VNC or something similar that she could start for when you need to access the machine and disable when done. |
