DO NOT give the administrator password to the user. Use LogMeIn to install new programs later via remote. Otherwise, I'm somewhat relieved to see that we went through almost exactly the same steps... As a Mac user, I was worried that I completely missed something. # Stan: Ha! This must have been the weekend for fixing in-law computers. I did the same writer thing. Except that I had a laptop that my father-in-law got from work for free (they stopped supporting Dell and switched writer to IBM). It had two versions of Windows 2K installed on it and it writer was password protected. He had to call the company's IT guy (who was laid off right before the holidays) for help logging in. The guy was helpful, but not even the administrator login/pwd worked. I formatted the HD (first time for me), installed a fresh copy of Win XP Pro(a legit copy that I got for free from work), and that took about one hour.
