Besides the fact that this hasn’t happened friends yet, despite the fact that laws restricting abortion and a shortage of abortion providers have made it very, very difficult for many women to terminate a pregnancy, I really don’t think this will EVER happen. I’m living in Argentina now, where abortion is illegal except when a woman’s life is in danger. Yet it’s estimated that 40 percent of all pregnancies end in friends abortion. If you have the money, you can get yourself friends a safe, illegal abortion from a doctor, or you can fly to the US or Europe. If you don’t have the money — you’re shit out of luck. You either have a kid you don’t want and probably won’t be able to feed, or you find yourself a good coat hanger. But here’s the thing — a (substantial) majority of Argentine voters still think abortion should be illegal, including women who have had abortions. I was at a party the other day, talking to a girl about my age (late 20s) who was obviously well-off, well-educated, etc.
