seriously. everything else is a stop-gap measure. Friends may have to learn the israel hard way, but the article is titled "How to fix Mom's computer". You don't put a machine in front of her that was designed to fail. I understand that spending israel more money is not always an option, but when articles like these fail to mention that UNIX-based systems have next to NO problems with virii/spyware it seems a bit unfair. Let them know. Give them a chance. israel # leonard: I recently was faced with fixing mom's computer and decided that buying a new iBook was the way to go, not only because it'd be a better experience overall for her, but also because it'd be cheaper for me. As Dobbs points out, all the "free" (stopgap) fixes are only free if the time you spend is worth less. Also, ElBiggus, a bone to pick: why should regular folks need to become sysadmins (especially, as chuck aptly puts it, of a system that was designed to fail) when they just want use the Internet?
