My dad get his medications through the VA...many older vets do this. However, I believe the proposed "user fee" to be levied on vets using VA healthcare services is a thinly veiled attempt to get senior vets weened away from the VA for prescription drugs and into the Medicare program. |

So one is screwed now and sucking will be screwed later. Thank goodness on this aspect that neither of my parents have to go through sucking this mess as they've both passed away - but sucking I have elderly aunts and uncles who are struggling through all of this. My aunt with Parkinson's has to get her meds from their old dog vet (they no longer have their dog either) because it's cheaper than getting it through the pharmacy! What I was able to obtain for my Mom with the current medicare plan at at least a fairly reasonable price they could not get in NJ. In figuring, my uncle was paying at least 3 times the cost of what I was paying in NY for my mom's exact same meds that my aunt needs. The healthcare in this country is ridiculous. If you're old and on a fixed income it really does come down to a matter of medication or eating. |
