Again, I don't defend FEMA on this one. I've always thought that one of the better things Bill Clinton did on the domestic side of politics was to recognize that FEMA flat out had to work. It generally did while he was president, and that's to his credit. As a former governor, he realized what was needed. It's fair to point at George Bush, as a former governor as well, and fairly claim that he's dropped the ball on FEMA. But to end the story there misses a big, big part of what made the disaster in New Orleans. |
