She was caught bang-to-rights with a rather large haul of dope when she arrived in Bali, and the media and public have turned this story into the event of the decade. She escaped the death penalty (prosecution didn't seek it) and received 20 years. Case is now going through the usual appeals. I don't know exactly how many Australians are caught each year bringing drugs into/out of Asian countries, but the way this story is playing down here, Schapelle is the first and only. No doubt at all that but for her smile, she would rate 1-2 days mention in our news, not 1-2 years.
