The subject of 'Business of Fashion’ would normally cover matters such as mill production, exports, per capita consumption of fabrics, and so on. However, the word, ‘fashion’, as I understand depicts a lifestyle trend that is followed by a person or a group over of persons in a particular period over and the business of fashion is all about meeting the ever changing needs of such people and give them always something new to aspire for. The business, I suppose, was much simpler a few decades ago. It was all about manufacturing and reaching the wares to over the consumer through various channels of distribution. A lot has changed since then. All along we have been talking about technology upgradation for quality improvement. Going through the pages of IMAGES publications, I gather that it is not only the manufacturing that requires technology, but more than that, it is the whole gamut of activities like marketing, branding, distribution and finally retailing that entail as much technology and skills as much in production.
