what is with the world!? # Matt: If anyones mum is like mine, islam moving her to a Mac would be reason enough for a breakdown. She uses Windows at work and wants to use something similar at home. My approach is to install XP Pro, fully updated, turn off Windows islam Firewall, install ZA Pro, TrendMicro AV, Spybot S&D, FireFox and islam Thunderbird, use a router with a firewall and stealth it, then let her go. Works everytime, shes been using this for 18 months now, no spyware, no viruses just happy surfing. I'm not anti Mac, I just want my Mum to have as hassle free an online experience as possible and for her, that means using Windows because thats what every other computer she sees will be running. My own machine? I have a Mac, an XP machine and a RedHat machine. The only one that needs recent hardware is XP... # Don: 3 years ago, I picked up a refurbished iBook for my Mom (~$700). She constantly forwards nervous e-mails from friends about viruses, etc....she even bought anti-virus software.
