It's a question that I have answered to my own satisfaction, but not to hers. She argues that since there is no ultimate meaning apparent in the universe, humans have no real reason to do anything. I submit that, while the universe lacks ultimate meaning, that does not mean that lesser meanings do not exist. Meaning is something that we ourselves give to the universe, and rejecting our own given meanings is setting our standards unreasonably high. |
