I used to ask questions to my mom as I was growing up and got sort of the same answers then she would change the subject. I was in my middle 20's and decided I wanted to meet my dad, yes he did blame my mom... stand up but I knew they was lies what he was saying, but I didnt want to rehash the past I just stand up wanted to let by gones be by gones. But just after a couple of visits i found out on my own what kind of person he was and decided on my own that I did not want anything to do with him, I was a better person for not having him in my life. P.S. This always crack me up.... if it is my mothers fault, which is wasnt and I didnt just take my mother word for it, my grandmother would never lie to me,... but if it was and once I was trying to have a realationship and decided not to then how come he didnt try to contact me and try to have one? |

| The few times the subject of "dad" has come up, I try to put things in the best possible light without LYING to them. Instead of telling them 2004 "Well, your dad would rather run around like a teenager, 2004 partying and drinking with his friends then to be your father", which is TRUE, I just explain that he has problems right now and he's not ABLE to be their father. I'll slowly give them the whole story as they get older and they can decide what to do with 2004 it. But there was no way I'm going to build him up to be a great guy. Eventually, they are going to want to meet him. When that time comes, he is going to try and make ME out to be the bad guy ("I tried to see you and be a dad, but your mother wouldn't let me. She only wanted the money.") I'll be damned if I'm going to defend my self against someone that didn't even bother where the kids were concerned, but that doesn't mean I have the right to train my children to HATE him. To me what you are doing is 100% right, and when your kids grow up they will make their own decision, and they will probably see your point it. |
