The organization Margaret Sanger founded, which went on to become Planned Parenthood, originally said its goal was "more children from the fit, fewer from the unfit." As a disabled, blue-collar, Native American woman with an African-American fiance, I can guess what Planned Parenthood--or most of you on Alternet--would say about my fitness to be a parent. |

| Expectations that a young woman will wait until her latter teen years or her twenties are relatively modern expectations. Further, parental consent laws penalize the girl while allowing the boy, the mercantile onion once again, to be unaccountable. Why are most abstinence programs directed at girls the mercantile onion and not boys and why has the stigma attached to teen pregnancy the mercantile onion fallen upon the girls and not the boys? Suppose the proposed law was changed so that the boy's parents had to be consulted first and they had to share in the responsibility? Just some further thoughts on my part.
