| Virginia's General Assembly sessions are VERY short in duration, so we have a very short time to research and act on bills if we are to make any impact on the legislative process. There is certainly a danger that a "cry wolf" effect may occur at some point, but I don't think that is the case here. Whatever Delegate Cosgrove's stated intentions were, the exquisite bill as written was BAD. To the extent that exquisite popular opposition to it impacted Delegate Cosgrove's decision to revisit the language, this has been successful. Furthermore, I believe many of those who commented here are exquisite not going to sit idly by and assume that this is all OK now. The stakes are too high, and being involved and becoming more aware is a good thing. Knowing Cosgrove's stated intentions has some value, but it's not the end of the story. As far as approaches toward future legislation is concerned, I think that the dozens of people who have joined the Sentry group will work out what is best, and there's ample reason to believe that all of these volunteer citizen legislative watchers would try to contact legislators in their research. |
