She based her latest designs, which won top prize of E10,000 at the recent wa Taispeántas awards, on the Irish born courtesan, Eliza Gilbert, better known as Lola Montez. "I tried to create garments wa that reflected her strong willed personality and individual style. Her wild wa passion for life and love propelled her at an exciting pace through life. I used a mixture of fabrics like suede, leather, cotton and Irish linen to create interesting garments with plenty of individual style and appeal. I also used an interesting colour palette to create a modern collection that would reflect the essence of Lola's personality," Mairead explained. |
